Asteroid City Look - Italy in Kodak Vision 200T

Writer: Veres Deni AlexVeres Deni Alex

Kodak Vision3 200T (5213) is a tungsten-balanced motion picture film known for its fine grain, dynamic range, and cinematic color rendition. It became widely recognized after Wes Anderson used it in Asteroid City, a film famous for its iconic warm & pastel-toned aesthetic. However, an important detail to note is that the film was color-graded to achieve that warm look—exactly what I aimed for in this Asteroid City film simulation. The results? Stunningly close to the real thing.

The Look of Kodak Vision3 200T

Kodak Vision3 200T is a 200 ISO tungsten-balanced film, meaning it is designed to perform optimally under artificial (tungsten) lighting, producing neutral tones. However, when used in daylight with an 85B filter (or adjusted digitally), it shifts toward warm, pastel hues—perfectly matching Anderson’s signature aesthetic.

Characteristics of the Kodak Vision 200T Film Simulation

Like the look of Asteroid City, this Sony film simulation creates a dreamy, warm-toned atmosphere.

It features:

  • Soft, buttery contrast with a high dynamic range.

  • Pastel-like colors, including teal skies and golden-amber skin tones.

  • A unique cinematic glow that brings out teal skies, golden-amber skin tones, and enhances both landscapes and portraits.

Since its release, this film simulation has quickly become a top 5 favorite in the Sony film simulation community—and it’s easy to see why. To get a better idea of how it looks, check out the first article featuring shots taken with the RX100 VI Kodak Vision 200T film simulation.

Kodak Vision 200T V1 - Kodak Vision 200T V2

I have prepared 2 versions for this recipe, first (V1) with high dynamic range and super soft tones, and second one (V2) with higher contrast which is easier to expose, and for a more ready to go look. You can try both and see which one you like the most.

For proper brightness and pastel colors on the V1 version, you’ll have to overexpose by at least +1 stops, and you can go up until +1.7 stops overexposure. This will preserve details in both shadows and highlights. Depending on the situation, once you hit +2 exposure, you might start clipping highlights.

With the V2 I recommend exposing either at 0 or +1 if you want more pastel like colors, just be mindful of the clipping highlights.
