When creating all of my Sony film simulation, I always take into account as many real life film references to see what is the most popular look of Kodak Portra 400. It's important to know how the film behaves in different scenarios to form a knowledgeable opinion of the overall characteristics of the film.

If you shoot in a scene with limited color, the outcome may differ from what you achieve in a more colorful setting, like a natural landscape.
The latest film simulations have been calibrated on the Sony a6700. Cameras released in the same year, meaning a7CII, a7RV, ZV-E1, and so on, will virtually have the same color science and no matching is required. But since Sony kept improving their colors science over the years, hues will be different depending on the generation of the image sensor or image processor. All Sony cameras with the picture profile menu can use these film simulations, with the mention that colors might differ from model to model, depending on their release year gap. With older models, there can be a need for in-camera color matching.
