Hi, I have already joined the club, but I wanted to ask you something.
modern lenses are quite sharp, I understand by this that the detail value in the simulations has a value of -7 in most cases.
I particularly use vintage m42 and c/y lenses, that's why I feel that the deterioration of the detail in the images is excessive.
would you recommend any specific adjustment in my case? maybe take the value to 0?
PD: I am just starting to experiment with the settings, I must say that I love them.
Hei there! Glad you enjoy these recipes, it's always so heartwarming to see people using them :D
So glad you asked, this is actually an amazing question, so I made a quick comparison to showcase different settings.
Before we start let me share a screenshot from Sony's Official Website so you can understand how each option influences the final image, and the logic behind.
I am working on a short and concise video, where I explain everything about the Picture Profile Menu and how to create your own Custom Picture Profile, but 'till that video is out, here is a helpful guidance in what each option is doing.
For this test I've used the Classic Negative in combination with the Tamron 28-75mm at f4.5 as reference for the digital lenses, and a Helios 58mm at f4.5 & wide open at f2 as a reference for vintage lenses.
So let's see what the results are.
I focused on the White Round Rock in front of the bebeh jesus right there, it's a great subject for its amount of details. You might need to download these images and zoom in to see exactly the differences, but you can also see the dust speckles on the glass intensifying as we go with the Higher Settings.

Finally I tested my softest detail settings compared to the highest detail settings with the lens wide open at f2 to see results while shooting in the softest situation possible.

Hopefully the information and these sample settings will give you a better understanding of how to work with the details Menu and adjust it to your own liking.
I personally feel the Medium Details Settings is the sweet spot for this particular lens, but softer lenses might need Higher Settings.
Also beware & remember, the higher the settings the more noise & grain you introduce in the image.

I recommend using this lens
Fantastic answer, I will play with the reference settings , to see how they behave with the lenses, I am curious also to see the results with thorium lenses like the takumar.
