What camera did you use for Recipes IV?

Since different Sony cameras have different color casts, I'm wondering which camera you used for the Recipes IV PDF. I'm using an a6400, and I've read that it has essentially the same sensor (smaller) as the a7iii. If I'm not mistaken I believe you were using a7iii before--but now it looks like you are using an a6700. (Congrats on the new camera!)

Wondering if you built the current version of the film recipes on the a6700, as I've heard it renders color much more naturally than the a7iii? And if so, I am wondering how I might need to adjust the color temperature and magenta/green color cast with a sensor that is more like the a7iii.

Of course I can and will just use my eyes to adjust warmth and color cast as well. :-)

It's clear now for me that your work has be done for your Sony A6700. The recipes version IV are not compatible with my Sony A7R II camera because Pictures Profiles are not the same between A7R II and A6700 cameras, not only for colors but also for settings and because sensor technologies are different between these cameras.

By the way, I have noticed that about 70% of your recipes have K color temperatures between 3500 K and 4500 K in addition majority of colors filters are as follows Ax / Mx such as A7 M4 or A3 M1.25 and so on. That shows a reply (Magenta) against yellow/green color cast relative to Sony A6700.

So your recipes require extra color adjustments and sometimes more : PP settings missing such as HGL3 or S Cinestone as you know 😣

Anyway I am grateful for your work that shows me a new way to work with my Sony cameras 🙂

Just because you have an older camera, does not mean it's not compatible with the film simulations. It does require some color matching tho.

On the website, I mentioned the first camera models that are compatible with the film simulations, so even users of older cameras can enjoy these recipes. Not everybody has the money or wants to upgrade to the newest cameras.

Color differences will exist even between newer cameras like the a7cII to the a6700. So in the end it's about understanding the menu, and how you can shift colors using all the tools available.

Most of the time, cameras can be color matched with the help of the picture profile menu and the temperature settings, even if the color science has evolved so much over the past years. I have showcased this in the following article on how to match your Sony colors. Check it out:

I personally use both old and new cameras, and I am able to adapt most film recipes pretty closely to each other. The main differences come to color cast, and focusing on the temperature and tint of the sensor. Some cameras are warmer, others are colder. Same with tint, some have a magenta cast, while others a green cast. These can be adjusted and matched pretty closely in camera. After adjusting these parameters, there still will be some color differences, which is to be expected since Sony kept improving their colors over the years, but you will get better colors out of camera if you know how to adjust it.

It's true. Newer cameras have more gammas & color modes, like HLG or S-Cinetone, but only a couple recipes use those Gammas(4-5 recipes at most), so older cameras are compatible with more than 45 film recipes available. And more recipes are coming this summer.
