Hi everybody,
based on the recent update I ordered the same colorchecker card Alex used to create his references. Now I shot a first set of comparison pictures with a lightsource I believe to be about 5500K (its a smart light bulb with a ****** app that does not offer to set the colortemp with a Kelvin-Value, but a rough check against the manual camera WB seems to suit the value I assume to be 5500K)
Here go my first results for the three film simulations I currently use the most.
I see some significant deviations especially on Portra400. Classic Chrome seems to match the best, but with some weird outliers like warm yellow (No. 16) and yellow-orange (No. 12).
When I got more time I will try to tweak around to get closer to the reference. I am excited to see if there is some kind of systematic offset for this camera model.
Highly appreciate any feedback and input on where to tweak first!
Especially on Portra400, which is way off and happens to be my favourite film simulation at least on the references :D ALso I wonder if I might be doing something wrong on my calibration setup here?
PS: In general looking at all at them at once it seems that my pictures are all quite strongly on the greenish side of things, while the reference seems to lean more towards magenta. Maybe thats a model specific thing? (please note I went with the default recommended values of the recipies here and did not compensate beyond so far)
Hei, using a light bulb is not accurate enough for the job. Many times it will have a weird color tint, and inaccurate Kelvin point, resulting in imprecise colors, which I think it's the issue here.
For the color checker, it's best if you at least use a pocket light that was made for video - photo purposes. Even if it's a cheap one like this one or this one, it will still give much better results than a lightbulb.
Also, please do mention the camera model you are using.
Please do not include the film recipe settings, or I will have to remove the comment.
